What you will be able to do
- Explain the principles behind Robert's Rules and why your chapter's bylaws come first
- Make, second, debate and vote on a motion using the correct steps and wording
- Choose the right motion to amend, refer, postpone or set aside business, and avoid misusing "table"
- Use point of order, appeal, request for information and division of the assembly correctly
- Apply majority, two-thirds and general consent voting thresholds accurately
- Run less formal, effective board and committee meetings under the small board rules
Good meetings do not happen by accident. Robert's Rules of Order gives every member the same rights, keeps the group on one question at a time, and produces decisions that hold up. This course teaches the parts a Realtist chapter actually uses: how a motion moves from idea to vote, what to say at each step, and how the chair keeps debate fair.
The lessons follow Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised, 12th edition, and correct the most common myths along the way, including tabling, calling the question and "silence equals consent." You will finish with a printable cheat sheet and the confidence to speak up, or to hold the gavel, at your next chapter, board or committee meeting.
