How twelve Black real estate professionals met in Tampa and built a movement for democracy in housing.
Where it began
On July 29, 1947, twelve Black real estate professionals from seven states met in Tampa, Florida and founded the National Association of Real Estate Brokers. Shut out of the industry's mainstream organizations, they built their own, and called its members Realtists.
Today NAREB Tampa carries that work forward in the city where it started, through the Tampa Bay Area Association of Realtists and now this Academy.
The vision behind the Academy

NAREB Tampa Academy is the brainchild of Kiana Washington Lampkin, the current President of NAREB Tampa. She sees a real need for education among Realtists, REALTORS and everyday home buyers, and created the Academy so that knowledge about real estate, homeownership and leadership reaches all of them.
Under her leadership, the chapter is carrying NAREB's founding promise, democracy in housing, into the classroom: practical training for professionals and clear, honest guidance for the families they serve.

The National Association of Real Estate Brokers works to unify minority professionals and supporters in the real estate industry and to secure equal housing opportunity regardless of race, creed or color.
NAREB Tampa supports that mission locally through education, community outreach, business relationships and networking. The Academy puts the education part within everyone's reach.
